Information on the Solid Waste Management Plan Update
Metro Vancouver's current Solid Waste Management Plan (2011) established goals and targets for waste reduction and recycling, and outlined strategies and actions for Metro Vancouver and its member jurisdictions. An updated solid waste management plan will build on the strengths of the current plan and identify opportunities for accelerated waste reduction and recycling while reducing greenhouse gases and promoting a circular economy.
In 2024, Metro Vancouver completed the idea generation phase of the plan update, where ideas were collected to inform potential strategies and actions for an updated plan. In 2025, the options analysis phase involved receiving feedback on potential strategies and actions that will be considered for inclusion in the updated solid waste management plan.
