Metro Vancouver Housing 10-Year Plan
The region continues to face a persistent shortfall of affordable rental housing.
As the second largest non-profit housing provider in BC, Metro Vancouver Housing recognizes both the need and opportunity to grow its housing portfolio, while ensuring existing homes remain safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Adapting to a Changing Housing Landscape
The previous 10 Year Plan, adopted in 2019, laid the foundation for expanded delivery. Since then, Metro Vancouver Housing has met or is on track to meet its major commitments, including new buildings completed, projects underway, and renewed investment in aging sites.
However, the housing landscape has changed significantly. New federal and provincial funding programs, updated building and climate policies, and advances in construction and design technologies have created new opportunities to scale up non market housing delivery.
The new Metro Vancouver Housing 10 Year Plan responds to these shifts and sets a renewed direction for how we will provide, preserve, and expand non market rental housing across the region.
Investing in Renewal and Growth
Metro Vancouver Housing will commit at least $150 million over the next decade to renew and expand its housing portfolio. These investments will deliver:
- At least 2,000 new and redeveloped homes (approximately 50% of portfolio growth)
- Renewal of existing buildings to maintain long term performance
- Improvements in accessibility, sustainability, and resilience across all new developments and existing sites
