contaminants from FortisBC’s existing Renewable Natural Gas facility located at
5400 72 Street, Delta, BC V4K 3N3. FortisBC has an approval (GVU1256), which
expires on March 29, 2026. FortisBC’s approval is currently suspended, at their
request, because the facility is not operating. FortisBC intends to resume
operations on March 9, 2026, at which time the approval will be reinstated.</span></p><p><span lang="EN-US"></span></p><p>FortisBC is requesting a new permit with a 20-year term and an overall decrease in authorized emissions.</p><p>FortisBC is purchasing and upgrading the landfill gas from the City of Vancouver Landfill that was previously being flared by the City of Vancouver. Impurities within the landfill gas are removed through a series of separation processes, after which the gas is considered Renewable Natural Gas. This process is achieved through a biogas upgrading system, and the finished Renewable Natural Gas is subsequently pressurized and odorized prior to being injected into FortisBC's natural gas system.
