The new 2.2-kilometre section of roadway both enhances current and supports future transportation needs. The project, valued at $28 million, was jointly funded by YVR and Metro Vancouver, showcasing a strong partnership in advancing regional infrastructure.</div><div><br></div><div>Road improvements include wider vehicle lanes, dedicated turning lanes, and paved shoulder lanes for on-road cycling. A new separated multi-use path supports shared pedestrian and slower, recreational cycling access. The re-aligned road will also provide better access to core airport-related land use and developments including Canada Post, UPS, airport fuel facilities, and YVR construction contractor yards.</div><div><br></div><div>“The newly re-aligned Ferguson Road enhances road safety for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians alike,” said Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO at Vancouver International Airport. “This project reflects our strong partnership with Metro Vancouver and the expert contractor and employee teams who worked for many months to see this road and environmental work through to successful completion.”</div><div><br></div><div>Phase One of the project, including site pre-loading, was complete by BD Hall Constructor Corporation, while Tybo Contracting Ltd. led the second phase, completing the road re-alignment and updating the drainage system to keep the immediate and surrounding areas geotechnically sound and weather resilient.</div><div><br></div><div>"Completing this initiative demonstrates the importance of organizational partnerships and provides immediate and significant benefits for all users of Ferguson Road,” said Mike Hurley, Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors. “I’m thrilled we could partner with YVR to help fund this preliminary work that will not only support the future construction of the Iona Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects, but also enhances safety for all who access and enjoy the gem that is Iona Beach Regional Park.”</div><div><br></div><div>YVR also partnered with Salish Environmental Group (SEG), a 100% Musqueam member-owned company to complete the landscaping scope of the project. SEGs involvement and expertise</div><div>underscores our shared commitment to meaningful collaboration, in line with the 2017 Musqueam Indian Band - YVR Airport Sustainability & Friendship Agreement. It is also indicative of the valuable contributions made by the Musqueam community to the project. SEG ensured the significant landscaping work along the boulevard between the multi-use path and roadway showcased use and promotion of vegetation endemic to the region.</div><div><br></div><div>YVR is leading several critical infrastructure projects to enhance safety, efficiency, and connectivity for travellers, partners, tenants, workers, and the broader community. The Ferguson Road Improvement work is one of several important projects aimed at upgrading the airport's surrounding infrastructure.<br></div><div><br></div></div>10/23/2024 7:00:00 AMMetro Vancouver Media Relationsmedia@metrovancouver.org
