Building-Scale Non-Potable Water Systems in the Region – Planning and Implementation Resources

Adoption of non-potable water systems can help address climate and population growth-related challenges by saving the region’s precious drinking water for potable water purposes, helping ensure the region will have enough drinking water today and for future generations.

Through the Non-Potable Water Use Project, Metro Vancouver has collaborated with industry stakeholders to identify and investigate solutions to region-specific challenges associated with building-scale non-potable water systems. The project culminated in a guidebook and companion document that provide guidance to those within the existing regional regulatory framework who are considering or implementing a building-scale non-potable water system.

Industry stakeholders were also engaged to develop a key findings document that provides stakeholders across the region and BC with recommended actions to address the most significant barriers and challenges with the adoption of non-potable water systems.

Metro Vancouver is currently seeking an appropriate organization or government to lead or facilitate the continuation of this work. Please contact key staff through the Information Centre if you would like to express interest in supporting or leading this work.
