Overnight mooring is not permitted. Swimming is not recommended in the Fraser River because of swift currents and changing water quality.<br></p> </div><div class="ExternalClass700C437CCC0949EA983E362D59FDBA29"><p>​Most trails are also sewer and stormwater service routes -- be prepared to encoun​​ter large trucks. <br></p></div><div class="ExternalClass466818B3B83F494D916F21F4C2A1E2CF"><div><div><p>Brunette-Fraser Regional Greenway is part of the regional greenway network and part of the Central Valley Greenway connecting Vancouver to New W​​estminster. When completed, it will extend 16 km from Burnaby Mountain to the Fraser River.<br></p><div class="ExternalClass3CC532E1E0E149E78C40AB8B50A567AD"><p><strong>Accessing the Gre​​enway</strong></p><p>Metro Vancouver operates three sections of the greenway including Sapperton Landing along the Fraser River in New Westminster, and two sec​​tions of trail in Burnaby (2 km through the Brunette River Conservation Area; and 400 m near Stoney Creek).</p><p>Sapperton Landing is located at the foot of Cumberland Street – a 750 m walk from the Sapperton SkyTrain Station. Both the Brunette River and Stoney Cree​k sections can be accessed from Burnaby Lake Regional Park's Avalon Avenue Entrance.<br></p></div><div class="ExternalClass3CC532E1E0E149E78C40AB8B50A567AD"><p><strong>Sapperton Pum​​p Station<a href="/media-room/video/664476504"></a></strong></p><p>A Metro Vancouver wastewater pump station is also located at Sapperton Landing. The <a href="/media-room/video/664476504">Sapper​ton Pump Station​</a> provides public washrooms, additional parking, and opportunities to learn about the area's Indigenous history, and about how the pump station works. <br></p></div></div></div></div><div class="ExternalClass966A6A5C63D848E8844EADABE92D1CF4"><div><p>​Sapperton Landing, wh​ere the Brunette River meets the mighty Fraser, is rich in history. It has been the site of a First Nation village, a Royal Engineers' camp; the first legislature of British Columbia, and the BC Penitentiary. The only remaining building to reflect the site's history is the BC Penitentiary Wharf Warehouse (ca. 1930s) where food, wood, coal, supplies and prisoners passed through.</p></div></div><div class="ExternalClass8C737BE0445641479EBAF26313AE8DB8"><p>​Bears, cougars and coyotes may pass through this park from time to time. If you encounter any of these animals, give them space, stay calm, and slowly back away. The trails along the Fraser River and through the Brunette River Conservation Area are level with a semi-firm trail surface (crushed, packed gravel).
