New Committee Will Advance Recommendations from Independent Governance ReviewNew Committee Will Advance Recommendations from Independent Governance Review<div class="ExternalClass37AEBDD663B44E0EB3C890E9805BD8BF"><p>​</p><p style="margin-bottom:20px;">A new Metro Vancouver standing committee has been struck to lead the Board’s efforts in implementing recommendations from the recently concluded independent Governance Review conducted by Deloitte Canada. The creation of a Governance Committee was one of the recommendations resulting from the review. Immediately following the report’s release, the Chair announced a Governance Committee with membership based on expressions of interest and a skills matrix. </p><p style="margin-bottom:20px;">The following Board Directors have been appointed to the committee:</p><ul><li><strong>Chair:</strong> Lisa Dominato (Vancouver)</li><li><strong>Vice Chair:</strong> Dylan Kruger (Delta)</li><li>Paul Albrecht (Langley City)</li><li>Malcolm Brodie (Richmond)</li><li>Lisa Muri (North Vancouver District)</li><li>Mark Sager (West Vancouver)</li><li>Teri Towner (Coquitlam)</li><li>Brad West (Port Coquitlam)</li></ul><p style="margin-bottom:20px;">The Province of British Columbia has been invited to take part in meetings where issues of provincial interest are on the agenda.</p><p style="margin-bottom:20px;">The Governance Committee will be responsible for:</p><ul><li>Reviewing and recommending improvements to the Board’s governance framework</li><li>Advising the Board on the 2025 Governance Review recommendations</li><li>Supporting ongoing Board effectiveness through training, performance evaluations, and succession planning</li><li>Advising the Chair on the structure and composition of standing committees</li><li>Periodically reviewing alignment with best practices for remuneration</li></ul><p style="margin-bottom:20px;">In May, the Board received the Governance Review report, which concluded that Metro Vancouver’s governance structure has worked for decades, but can also benefit from improvements. The report made 49 recommendations aimed at improving Metro Vancouver Board governance, which include reviewing the Board size and structure, instituting a Governance Committee, streamlining standing committees, and strengthening Metro Vancouver’s internal audit function. </p><p style="margin-bottom:20px;">The Board Governance Review was launched in February 2025 to look at Board and Committee structure, compensation for Board and Committee members, and Board decision-making processes. The provincial government partnered with Metro Vancouver on this review, and Deloitte Canada conducted the review.
