Update on Watermain Break in New WestminsterUpdate on Watermain Break in New Westminster

On Friday, February 14, Metro Vancouver provided initial information regarding a watermain break in New Westminster. The break occurred near 240 Francis Way, affecting buildings on Francis Way and Jamieson Court.

The leak was isolated and stopped on the morning of February 14. Flow of water from the watermain stopped within a few hours of the leak being isolated, and Metro Vancouver is now working to expose the break so that staff can assess the cause and repair it. Excavation began yesterday afternoon, and that work continues this morning.

Metro Vancouver is working with the City of New Westminster to remove water from affected residences, including two high-rise buildings on Jamieson Court, and restore access and power. Any water that people may notice flowing in the area is being pumped from those residences.

The ongoing work may result in drinking water turbidity (cloudiness) and pressure issues. Metro Vancouver is monitoring this closely and will update the public should the water quality become a concern. Tap water is safe to drink and consumers do not need to take any actions at this time.

2/15/2025 8:00:00 AMMetro Vancouver Media Relationsmedia@metrovancouver.org
