| Invest Vancouver Publishes New Report on Trends in Metro Vancouver's High-Tech Sector | Invest Vancouver Publishes New Report on Trends in Metro Vancouver's High-Tech Sector | | <div class="ExternalClass4B1313A25B574B24998CC379B203E4B6"><p>Invest Vancouver, Metro Vancouver's regional economic development service, has published a new report, <a href="https://investvancouver.ca/industries/high-tech/boosting-economic-landscape/Pages/default.aspx"><em>The Metro Vancouver Region's High-Tech Engine: Boosting the Economic Landscape</em></a>, examining investment and labour trends in the region's technology sector and evaluating how the region's investment attraction advantages stack up globally.</p><p>“More than $31 billion USD (approximately $40 billion CAD) has been invested in tech firms headquartered in the region over the past six years, with a significant share of that flowing into advancements in healthcare, energy, and material sciences," said Mike Hurley, Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board. “Our region is not only a world-class destination, but also home to a thriving high-tech hub that's generating quality jobs for residents in the region that is poised for even greater success."</p><p>Key findings of the report include:</p><ul><li>Employment in the region's high-tech sector grew by 75 per cent from 2009 to 2021, outpacing the broader regional economy (33 per cent).<br> </li><li>Nearly four out of five high-tech workers in BC work in Metro Vancouver.<br> </li><li>Metro Vancouver has the top qualities international tech firms prioritize when looking to expand, but the region isn't always top of mind.<br> </li><li>The integration of AI within the region's well-established industries, including healthcare, construction, and resource extraction, presents an economic development opportunity that can capture the interest of international investors.<br> </li><li>Firms in the Metro Vancouver region that don't adopt AI solutions risk falling behind.</li></ul><p>“Our region offers the ideal combination of top-tier talent, established industry clusters, and a thriving business environment — exactly what international tech firms seek," said Linda Buchanan, Chair of the Invest Vancouver Management Board. “By fostering strategic collaboration, we can continue to attract new talent and companies, support scaling-up locally, and drive sustained growth and global competitiveness.
