Metro Vancouver Board Elects New Chair | Metro Vancouver Board Elects New Chair | | <div class="ExternalClass1940F79021304BACB30D3BF4E3136790"><p></p><p>Metro Vancouver's Board of Directors has elected Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley as the new Chair.</p><p>Metro Vancouver provides services to 21 municipalities, one electoral area, and one treaty First Nation, serving more than 2.8 million residents. Services include providing drinking water, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and air quality regulation, as well as planning for urban growth, managing a regional parks system, and building and operating affordable rental housing.</p><p>Metro Vancouver is governed by a 41-person <a href="https://subscription.metrovancouver.org/sites/Media/default.aspx?jg=06ec2c71-bd76-4acc-aaf6-35612ca03e4a&eg=d20ba00f-ad4e-4f05-b62a-56ec053b34e9&lg=b0eaf304-bcf2-4363-855b-bca712b66b63<p=c">Board of Directors</a> made up of elected officials from each member jurisdiction. The Board oversees four legal entities: Metro Vancouver Regional District, Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District, Greater Vancouver Water District, and Metro Vancouver Housing Corporation.</p><p>Directors are appointed by their respective councils, except for Electoral Area A, where the director is elected directly by residents. The number of directors from each member jurisdiction reflects its population. Each member jurisdiction holds at least one vote, and is allocated one additional vote when the population exceeds 20,000, plus an additional vote for each 20,000-resident increment thereafter. Each director holds up to a maximum of five votes. The Chair and Vice Chair positions are elected by the Board.</p><p>The Chair heads all four legal entities.
