Metro Vancouver Receives MOSAIC Employer Recognition Award | Metro Vancouver Receives MOSAIC Employer Recognition Award | |

Metro Vancouver is honoured to be named MOSAIC's Employer of the Year, acknowledging the organization's leadership and commitment to cultivating a diverse, safe, equitable, and inclusive work environment for all employees.

“Metro Vancouver employs talented people who deliver critical services — from drinking water and wastewater treatment, to solid waste management and affordable rental housing — that make this region a great place to live. We embrace, celebrate, and empower diversity and strive to attract, retain, and train a workforce that reflects the region we serve," said George V. Harvie, Chair of Metro Vancouver's Board of Directors. “Thank you to MOSAIC for recognizing this important work, and reinforcing that we are moving the dial on diversity, equity, and inclusion at Metro Vancouver through forward-thinking policies, processes, and programs."

MOSAIC is one of Canada's largest settlement non-profit organizations. The Employer Recognition Award is given each year to an employer that is dedicated to having a diverse, multicultural staff; removing language barriers for immigrants and refugees; and supporting the integration of immigrants and refugees into the Canadian workforce through work placements, mentoring, and other career support.

“Congratulations to Metro Vancouver on this well-deserved award and their commitment to creating a workplace that supports diversity, inclusion, and equity for all employees. Partnering with inclusive and progressive employers who support the principles of multiculturalism and employment equity like Metro Vancouver is the reason MOSAIC programs succeed and impact the lives of newcomers throughout British Columbia. Thank you, Metro Vancouver, for your leadership, we look forward to continuing our partnership," said Alyaa Elhebeishy, Manager – Employer Relations and Business Development at MOSAIC.

Metro Vancouver has been an employer partner with MOSAIC's WorkXP Internship Program since 2022 and served on the program's advisory committee. The program connects internationally educated and experienced immigrant professionals with Canadian employers for at least 10 to 12 weeks of paid work.

As a result of this partnership, Metro Vancouver created a Canadian Work Experience Program, which provides five-month work assignments to new immigrant professionals to gain their first Canadian work experience in their area of expertise. It aims to counter unemployment and underemployment for Canadian newcomers and bridge the gap between a candidate's international education and professional experience.

Metro Vancouver also has an Internationally Trained Engineers Program, which gives internationally trained engineers Canadian experience and helps them obtain their Professional Engineering status with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. This program removes barriers, deepens the talent pool, and supports those who may be underemployed as they strive to gain employment and professional accreditation.

Many participants in both programs have gone on to find meaningful permanent employment — some with Metro Vancouver.

Metro Vancouver has worked hard to implement a number of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and initiatives, and ensure that they are integrated into our recruitment initiatives and processes, professional development opportunities, and organizational culture. We are always strategizing and prioritizing ways to make sure Metro Vancouver remains a great place to work.

For more information about working at Metro Vancouver, visit metrovancouver.org/about-us/careers.

| 6/14/2024 7:00:00 AM | | Metro Vancouver Media Relations | media@metrovancouver.org | | |
