Overview
Metro Vancouver is working with the City of Burnaby to develop a 20-year management plan for
Burnaby Lake Regional Park and your input matters.
This plan will guide how we care for and improve the park for decades to come, and focus on:
- Protecting natural ecosystems
- Supporting safe and sustainable park access
- Improving aging infrastructure
- Balancing the needs of all park users
Draft management plan
Following Phase 1 engagement (fall 2025), Metro Vancouver considered feedback received and developed a draft management plan.
The draft plan aims to balance protecting and enhancing the park's ecological values and cultural heritage with opportunities for people to connect with nature. Proposed improvements to trails, entrances, and visitor amenities will enhance access and accessibility, support education and stewardship, and help distribute visitor use more evenly throughout the park.
Engagement
Phase 1 engagement - Complete
Phase 1 engagement focused on gathering input and identifying opportunities for the Burnaby Lake Regional Park Management Plan. Public engagement took place between October 14 and November 30, 2025, and included a survey and pop-up information events.

Phase 2 engagement - Complete
Phase 2 engagement focused on collecting feedback on the draft management plan and priorities for implementation. Public engagement took place between August 5 and September 11, 2026, and included a survey and pop-up information events.

Next steps
Metro Vancouver will review and analyze all feedback received during engagement in winter 2026 and spring 2027. This input will help refine the final Burnaby Lake Regional Park Management Plan and identify priorities for implementation.
Once complete, the final management plan, including a summary of what we heard and how feedback was considered, will be presented to the Metro Vancouver Board for approval. Following adoption, the plan will guide the management and enhancement of Burnaby Lake Regional Park over the next 20 years.
