North Road SewerNorth Road Sewer

The North Road Sewer pipe collects sewage from the cities of Burnaby and Coquitlam, and carries it to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of Delta. To ensure wastewater continues to be managed safely and to accommodate regional growth, upgrades to the North Road Sewer pipe are necessary.

The new pipe is being constructed in multiple phases over several years due to the length of the pipe spanning across the cities of Burnaby and Coqutilam. The North Road Sewer Upgrade project consists of the following sections of work:

Phase One: Extends between the Brunette River and just north of Lougheed Highway on North Road in New Westminster and Burnaby and was completed in 2020.

Phase Two: Runs along North Road from Lougheed Highway to Clarke Road in Burnaby and Coquitlam. Preparatory work began in late 2023, with main construction starting in early 2024 and ending in 2025, and final paving work being completed in spring 2025.

Phase Three: Will cross over the BNSF Railway in Burnaby. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026 or 2027.

Fact Sheet - North Road Sewer

North Road, cities of Burnaby and CoquitlamProject
