North Road SewerNorth Road Sewer<div class="ExternalClassF9DCBB8559A7450D9E1B004B6224E23E"><p>​The North Road Sewer pipe collects sewage from the cities of Burnaby and Coquitlam, and carries it to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of Delta. To ensure wastewater continues to be managed safely and to accommodate regional growth, upgrades to the North Road Sewer pipe are necessary.</p><p>The new pipe is being constructed in multiple phases over several years due to the length of the pipe spanning across the cities of New Westminster, Burnaby and Coqutilam. The North Road Sewer Upgrade project consists of the following sections of work:<br></p><ul><li><strong>Phase One:</strong> Extends between the Brunette River and just north of Lougheed Highway on North Road in New Westminster and Burnaby and was completed in 2020.<br></li><li><strong>Phase Two:</strong> Runs along North Road from Lougheed Highway to Clarke Road in Burnaby and Coquitlam. Impacts and mitigationImpacts and mitigation<div class="ExternalClass234D1ABC52B14F139DD8FE6121D982F2"><p>Metro Vancouver recognizes construction may significantly impact the local community and travelling public. Activies and impacts associated with this project will include:</p><ul><li>Traffic pattern changes, detours, and delays<br></li><li>Driveway and property access restrictions</li><li>Parking and sidewalk restrictions</li><li>Construction vehicles and increased traffic in the area<br></li><li>Extended working hours and periods of overnight noise <br></li><li>Noise from machinery, generators, and a bypass system required to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week at times<br></li></ul><div><p>To keep traffic moving safely and efficiently during construction, Metro Vancouver will implement traffic control personnel, detour signage, and other traffic management tools to accommodate the temporary traffic disruptions and potential delays.<br></p><p>To ensure the safety of residents and construction crews, and to reduce project impacts in the community, we will:</p><ul><li>Schedule noiser activities to occur during the day when possible<br></li><li>Advertise detour routes in advance<br></li><li>Notify residents and businesses of temporary driveway and access closures in advance</li><li>Ensure emergency services will have access to properties and businesses at all times ​<br></li></ul></div></div>
Work hoursWork hours<div class="ExternalClass857F2E19A03945A09C1F093F19CD0C9B"></div><div class="ExternalClass857F2E19A03945A09C1F093F19CD0C9B"><p>Daytime and intermittent ​overnight work will be in effect. Work is expected to occur Monday to Saturday, 21 hours per day, with a break from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm daily<span lang="EN-CA">. </span><span lang="EN-CA">Typical overnight work hours will be Monday to Saturday, from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. </span><span lang="EN-CA">Typical daytime work hours will be</span><span lang="EN-CA"> Monday to Saturday, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm​.  </span>​​</p><p>There will be times when we will be working extended hours, or ​outside of the above listed hours to operate specific machinery,​ or complete certain required tasks to maintain the project schedule​. In these cases, impacted residents, businesses, and community members will be notified.<br></p><p>All work activities will comply with local municipal bylaws or granted bylaw variances. ​<br></p></div>
EngagementEngagement<div class="ExternalClass1D730F7C50734173A755A9263F65A49A"><p>​Metro Vancouver is committed to minimzing the impacts of construction on the community. Local residents and businesses will receive ongoing notifications about the project as construction progresses through newsletters, web updates, email, and on-site signage. <br></p><p>A Community Liaison has been assigned to meet with business owners, residents, and community members to discuss the project impacts, compile project feedback and be available by phone or email to address any questions or concerns. ​​<br></p></div>
