Hiring, Owning, and Operating Diesel-powered Equipment

If you hire, own, or operate diesel- powered equipment, you are responsible for ensuring compliance with Metro Vancouver’s Non-Road Diesel Engine Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1329, 2021.

Who is Responsible for Ensuring Compliance?

  • Developers
  • General contractors
  • Municipalities
  • Land owner
  • Machine owner
  • Machine operator

When hiring contractors or equipment, it is recommended that you request the equipment engine Tier and confirmation of compliance with the Bylaw.

All Tier 0 and Tier 1 engines are required to display a unique Metro Vancouver registration number that can be entered into the Engine Lookup Tool on our website to determine if an engine is authorized to operate.

Ways to Check Engine Status

  1. Look up for the 4-digit registration number on the machine’s exterior
  2. Go to the Engine Lookup Tool or call 604-451-6655
  3. Enter 4-digit registration number to check machine status
