South Delta Water System UpgradesSouth Delta Water System Upgrades<div class="ExternalClassB2721ECFC6B846D5902AD400384CFABE"><p>Metro Vancouver provides high-quality drinking water for nearly 3 million residents in the region through a system of water supply areas, dams, treatment facilities, reservoirs, pump stations, and water mains. Upgrades are continuously being made to the water system to maintain the quality and reliability of our drinking water.</p><p>Metro Vancouver will be making improvements to existing infrastructure in South Delta, to meet the growing need for drinking water in the region. The South Delta Water System Upgrades include replacement of aged infrastructure in the drinking water system in Delta. Work on the South Delta Water System Upgrades project is crucial to maintaining the long-term quality and reliability of our drinking water system.</p><p>Construction is estimated to begin in Fall 2025, and last until Spring 2026. Project activitiesProject activities<div class="ExternalClassE7EA0E06515041DCBF24A85299EFB29D"><p>Main project activities will include:</p><ul><li>Preparing the work area, delivering equipment, and installing temporary construction fencing and Prepare the work area, deliver equipment, and install temporary construction fencing and signage to ensure the safety of construction crews and road users </li> <li>​Excavate a pit to expose the existing water main and two existing valve chambers on Ferry Road</li><li>Upgrade two existing valve chambers </li><li>Backfill and restore the work area </li></ul></div>
Impacts and mitigationImpacts and mitigation<div class="ExternalClassE4F94E23CD0345AB95AD7B0EF3970EA1"><p>​Metro Vancouver is committed to minimizing construction impacts whenever possible; however, we recognize this construction may impact you and the community. We anticipate the following impacts:</p><ul><li> <strong>Traffic: </strong>Partial lane closures at Ferry Road and Admiral Way, and the westbound lane of Admiral Way near Ferry Road</li><li> <strong>Sidewalk:</strong> Temporary sidewalk closures on Ferry Road near Admiral Way</li><li> <strong>Parking:</strong> Temporary restricted parking around work areas, including reduced parking in the boat launch parking lot at the end of Ferry Road</li><li> <strong>Noise:</strong> Moderate noise from construction vehicles and equipment in the area; crews will attempt to reduce noise impacts wherever possible<br></li></ul><p>Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are asked to follow the direction of signage and traffic control personnel.</p></div>
Work hoursWork hours<div class="ExternalClassD678FF16E0964D0BB420C5C62ECB2EE9"><p>​​​Typical work hours will be from Monday to Friday, between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm.<br></p><p>There may be times when crews will need to work longer hours or on weekends to complete certain tasks safely and efficiently. All activities will comply with the City of New Westminster noise bylaws and granted bylaw variances. </p></div>
