Kennedy Newton Water Main - South SectionKennedy Newton Water Main - South Section

Metro Vancouver is constructing the new Kennedy Newton Water Main in the City of Surrey and City of Delta to meet the growing demand for drinking water in the region.

Kennedy Newton Water Main is over eight kilometers long, and it is 1.8 metres in diameter, which is approximately the height of a person. Due to the large size and overall length of the new water main, construction has been split up into five sections.

South Section runs east of Scott Road along 86 Avenue and 123 Street. This section is approximately one kilometer long. It includes the construction of two valve chambers on 86 Avenue that will house pipe connections, valves, and electrical equipment used to regulate the water flow; and the construction of two vertical shafts used as entry and exit points for the 60-metre-long tunnelling portion.

Construction of the South Section began in spring 2023 and is scheduled to be completed in early 2026.

City of SurreyProject
