Application for Direct Water Connection

Metro Vancouver permits direct connection to the regional water system from member jurisdictions in accordance with the Greater Vancouver Water District Act​, SBC 1924, c 22, s 47. All requests by member jurisdictions for connections must be approved by Metro Vancouver. To apply for a direct water connection, please download the application form using the link provided below. To submit the completed application form, request information, inquire about an application in process, or for any other questions, email waterconnectionrequest@metrovancouver.org.

Process for direct water connection at each project phase​​

 

 

Project planning and preliminary design Project planning and preliminary design <div class="ExternalClass9AA2F270D0E940F8A0997CE52FC0E768"><p>Members must fill out the application form with the requested size and location of the connection point, service area details, present and future projection water demand details. Please include any supporting documents with the application form and submit it to <a href="mailto:mailto:waterconnectionrequest@metrovancouver.org">waterconnectionrequest@metrovancouver.org.</a></p><p>Metro Vancouver will review the submitted application and will follow up if more information is required. Otherwise, Metro Vancouver will send a list of conditions for review and acceptance. These conditions may include:</p><ul><li>Acknowledgement that water flow and pressures are not guaranteed at the connection points and connections to the regional water system cannot be relied on as a replacement for municipal fire flow storage, as per <a href="/boards/Policies/water-supply-pressure-for-gvwd-members-and-non-members.pdf" target="_blank">Water Supply Pressure for GVWD Members and Non-Member Policy No. UT-006</a>.</li><li>The connection is to be constructed at the member jurisdiction’s cost and must meet GVWD requirements, specifications, and standards.</li><li>Connections must be metered pursuant to the <a href="/services/water/Documents/drinking-water-management-plan-2011.pdf">Drinking Water Management Plan (June 2011, Strategy 3.2.3.)</a></li><li>The member jurisdiction, its employees, contractors, and agents, must implement with due care, attention, and measures sufficient to avoid and mitigate any impacts to GVWD facilities and GVWD’s delivery of drinking water to the region as per the <a href="/services/liquid-waste/Documents/water-and-liquid-waste-system-facilities-proximal-work-requirements.pdf">Proximal Work Requirements</a>.</li></ul><p>If the applicant accepts the condition, they must inform Metro Vancouver in writing at <a href="mailto:waterconnectionrequest@metrovancouver.org">waterconnectionrequest@metrovancouver.org​</a>. Once accepted, they can proceed to the next stage of design.​<br></p></div>
Detailed designDetailed design<div class="ExternalClass53B814A955F94A59AC899275B961D7CA"><p>Detailed design drawings of the connection are to be submitted to Metro Vancouver’s Engineering and Construction Division for review at <a href="mailto:waterconnectionconstruction@metrovancouver.org">waterconnectionconstruction@metrovancouver.org</a>. Design drawings must follow Metro Vancouver’s current standards for connectio​n details​ and conform with the accepted conditions. </p><p>The drawings must clearly indicate Metro Vancouver’s limit of responsibility and the member jurisdiction’s limit of responsibility. Metro Vancouver will work with the applicant to get the drawing to the Issue for Construction stage.​</p><p>Metro Vancouver will provide a cost estimate for the procurement and installation of the corporation’s scope of work. This usually entails a wet-tap and installation of pipe, check and gate valves. Upon receipt of the cost estimate, the applicant is to issue a purchase order to Metro Vancouver.​<br></p></div>
ConstructionConstruction<div class="ExternalClassC9DE849A80D14961A5C60000CDE9C0E3"><p>Upon receipt of the purchase order, Metro Vancouver will start the procurement and fabrication of materials. Invoices will be sent to the applicant. Coordination meetings will be conducted to plan and schedule Metro Vancouver’s portion of the work and the member jurisdiction’s portion of the work. </p><p>Once agreed by both parties, Metro Vancouver will approve the connection and send the signed application to the applicant. Construction can then proceed. Member jurisdictions and their contractors must adhere to Metro Vancouver’s Proximal Work Requirements. At project completion, applicant should submit as-built drawings and pay the invoices. </p> ​​​ </div>
