Project activities Project activities

Activities will include:

Site preparation

Ahead of major construction activities, the contractor will:

Set up a temporary storage area and office trailers

Deliver equipment and materials to the site

Install construction signage and tree protection fencing

Construction

When the site is ready for construction, crews will conduct:

Water main installation: The new water main will be installed in segments. This activity will involve excavating a large trench, placing wall supports to secure the excavated area, installing steel pipes, and restoring the impacted roadway temporarily before the work zone moves to the next segment. Each work zone will take approximately two months, depending on the ground conditions in that area.

Valve and flow meter chamber construction: The contractor will construct two valve chambers and a flow meter chamber along the project area. This work will include installing noise barriers, excavating a trench, installing wall supports, building a concrete structure, installing pipes and other equipment within the chambers, and temporarily restoring the areas. Each chamber may take approximately five months to be constructed.

Water main testing: Construction crews will excavate a small area at each end of the water main, conduct pressure testing, and temporarily restore the impacted areas.

Restoration

During the restoration phase, construction crews will permanently restore roadways, sidewalks, curbs, boulevards, and other impacted areas to previous or better condition.

Water main connection

Once the entire Annacis Water Main South is constructed, Metro Vancouver will return to the area to connect the new water main to the existing water distribution system via the Annacis Water Supply Tunnel and the Kennedy Newton Water Main.
