When not correctly recycled, batteries — even without charge — can cause fires, putting workers and the public at risk.
At Metro Vancouver recycling and waste facilities, lithium-ion batteries cause most battery-related fires. Lithium-ion batteries are found in e-mobility devices, smartphones, laptops, digital cameras, and any item that charges using a plug.
Do not put them in the garbage or blue bin. Instead connect with staff on-site to learn where to properly recycle batteries.

About Battery Recycling
Batteries can start fires when damaged or compressed, like in a garbage truck’s compactor or under a large machine pushing a garbage pile. When they are recycled, batteries are kept in a separate stream and handled safely, preventing fires.
