This map displays ecologically significant and relatively unmodified sensitive ecosystems such as wetlands, older forests, and woodlands. It also includes some human-modified ecosystems with high ecological value such as old fields and young forests. The Metro Vancouver Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory (SEI) only includes ecosystems that meet the classification criteria (size and condition minimums).
This tool was first created using remote sensing imagery from 2009 and provincial SEI standards. The inventory was subsequently updated with 2014 and 2020 imagery including LiDAR, orthophotos, and satellite imagery.
The Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory’s Geographic Information System (GIS) data is available for download from Metro Vancouver’s Open Data Catalogue.
