What to expectWhat to expect

Each August, Earth passes through a trail of space dust left by Comet Swift-Tuttle creating the Perseids meteor shower. When these meteors burn up in our atmosphere, we see streaks of light across the night sky. On good nights, we may see several meteors per hour. Cloud cover, light pollution, and moonlight can make meteors harder to spot, so patience and a bit of luck are part of the experience.

Dress for the weather: Evening temperatures can drop — dress in layers to stay comfortable outdoors.

What to bring (optional): A blanket, chair, drinking water, flashlight, telescope, or binoculars.

Stargazing tip: Download the free SkyView app in advance to help find the constellations.

Supervision required: All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Rain or shine: The event will take place regardless of weather conditions.

For the comfort of all participants, please leave pets at home.
