We’re operated via the Serpentine Enhancement Society, a 100% volunteer society. I’ve been an avid fisherwoman for many years. When my husband and I retired, we wanted to give back to the community. It takes around 3,200 volunteer hours a year just to maintain the hatchery. We release around 250,000 fish back into the Serpentine River every year – coho, chinook and chum. It’s fulfilling to maintain the habitat and the urban salmon.
