Stoney Creek Sewer Upgrade – Coquitlam SectionStoney Creek Sewer Upgrade – Coquitlam Section<div class="ExternalClassD7CAAB6229374AF28963224298948355"><p>The Stoney Creek Sewer is a large pipe that moves wastewater collected from communities in ​Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Port Moody to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Delta for treatment.</p><p>Metro Vancouver is constructing a new sewer pipe in Coquitlam and Burnaby to ensure t​he continued protection of public health and the environment. When complete, the new pipe will improve sewer service in the area by minimizing system backups and spills, supporting regional growth, and protecting Stoney Creek. Project activitiesProject activities<div class="ExternalClassCDE3AFDA34BD446FB16AB010408E4803"><p>The Coquitlam Section work will use open-trench construction methods, which involves digging a trench to install pipe along the new alignment. This work will occur within the roadway to help protect the environmentally sensitive area of Stoney Creek.</p> <p>Metro Vancouver recognizes this construction may impact the surrounding community and we are committed to minimizing construction impacts whenever possible. ​We will provide updates about the construction schedule and activities as the project progresses.</p></div>
Work hoursWork hours<div class="ExternalClass9215C097E44F4E79AA8507874D88D792"><p>Typical work hours will be:</p><ul><li><strong>Monday to Friday:</strong> 7:00 am - 8:00 pm </li><li><strong>Saturday (as needed):</strong> 10:00 am - 6:00 pm</li></ul><p>There may be times when crews will need to work longer hours to complete certain tasks or maintain the project schedule. We will notify the community about these activities ahead of time. All activities will comply with local noise bylaws or granted bylaw variances.</p></div>
Impacts and mitigationImpacts and mitigation<div class="ExternalClass1F6652A64BD64CFA8849E30F1B777BF0"><p>​​Metro Vancouver recognizes construction will impact the surrounding community and have planned several measures to minimize impacts as much as possible. The project team will:</p><ul><li>Connect with residents along the new sewer pipe route to advise them of upcoming construction activities</li><li>Provide a dedicated community liaison to address any public questions or concerns </li><li>Work closely with the City of Coquitlam, residents, and other community partners to identify and mitigate construction impacts early in the process</li></ul><p>The new sewer pipe is being designed to help protect the environmentally sensitive area of Stoney Creek. As a result, construction will take place within the roadway further away from the creek. Traffic, cyclist, and pedestrian access will be affected at times. Residents will be notified in advance about specific impacts as the project progresses, and local access will be maintained as much as possible throughout construction. Anticipated impacts will include:</p><ul><li>Traffic lane closures, delays, and impacts</li><li>Temporary driveway and property access restrictions</li><li>Parking and sidewalk restrictions</li><li>Construction vehicles, crews, and equipment in the area</li><li>Noise from the use of heavy equipment and generators</li><li>Traffic control personnel in the area<br></li></ul></div>
