Hudson Street Sewer RepairHudson Street Sewer Repair<div class="ExternalClassB4B7A937B3EB44B5BE7E40FCF1BC9071"><p>The Hudson Street Sewer was built in 1977 and helps move wastewater collected from communities in the Marpole area of Vancouver to the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Delta.</p><p>In April 2024, crews conducted emergency repairs at the Hudson Street Pump Station due to a sewer leak. Crews also installed a temporary bypass system.</p><p>In October 2024, permanent repairs to the Hudson Street Sewer began to replace two sections of pipe to extend its service life. Project activitiesProject activities<div class="ExternalClassA60223F05F8446B486D596F70E5D0C30"><p>Key activities include the installation of a new bypass port to connect to the nearby pump station and a new section of pipe along Hudson Street and W 75th Avenue. Once this new pipe is installed, the temporary bypass system will be removed.</p><p>Work is planned in multiple phases, with test digs near the pump station scheduled to start in late October 2024. In Phase 1, repair work on the Hudson Street Sewer will take place from fall 2024 to spring 2025, weather permitting.</p><p>During this time, crews will excavate a trench, replace the existing pipe, backfill the excavated trench, and carry out final road paving and restoration. Phase 2 will begin following the completion of Phase 1.<br></p></div>
Work hours Work hours <div class="ExternalClass4CF49FC66F1D43D4919D619C66577F25"><p>Typical work hours will be from Monday to Friday, between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. However, there may be times when crews will need to work longer hours or on weekends to complete certain sections of work. All activities will comply with the City of Vancouver noise bylaws and granted bylaw variances.<br></p></div>
Impacts and mitigation Impacts and mitigation <div class="ExternalClassAFE6EA652F654287941252BDA757611E"><p>Metro Vancouver recognizes construction will impact the surrounding community and have planned several measures to minimize impacts as much as possible.</p><ul><li>Traffic pattern changes and periods of single lane alternating traffic</li><li>Parking restrictions</li><li>Short-term driveway impacts</li><li>Restricted pedestrian access</li><li>Temporary odour</li><li>Construction noise, vibration, and dust in the area</li><li>Construction equipment, crews, and vehicles in the area<br></li></ul></div>
Engagement Engagement <div class="ExternalClass7FBAAF35667C4972BEE67FA9CFF5392D"><p>Metro Vancouver remains committed to minimizing the impacts of this necessary project on the surrounding community. To meet that commitment, we will:</p><ul><li>Continue to provide opportunities for the community to share their input</li><li>Provide regular project updates via newsletters, email, and webpage updates</li><li>Develop and implement a traffic management plan to ensure vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian access near the project area is not significantly interrupted<br></li></ul><p>​ <strong>Keeping the community updated </strong></p><p>Metro Vancouver will keep the community informed as the project progresses by sending updates through print notifications, the project website, and on-site signage.</p><p>Our community liaison is available throughout the project to address any questions or comments you may have about the Hudson Street Sewer Repair project.<br></p></div>
