Metro Vancouver is upgrading sections of the sewer to accommodate population growth and ensure continued protection of public health and the environment. Project updateProject update<div class="ExternalClassE724836570424330A1723F07162CA58E"><p>​​​​​Crews are completing site restoration in Glenbrook Ravine Park. This work includes installing irrigation and signage, removing tree protection barriers, and laying new asphalt and plant bedding.</p><p>The trail entrance at Jamieson Court will be closed temporarily, starting February 10 for approximately one week. Trail users can still access the park through the adjacent parking lot. All other trails and access points to Glenbrook Ravine Park will remain open.</p><p>Residents may notice noise, dust, crews and vehicles in the area. Project activitiesProject activities<div class="ExternalClass13E82B90C816468B8CF3A3322AD41FF4"> <p>​Construction for this project will take place at Glenbrook Ravine Park in New Westminster. This work involves upgrading the sewer and the diversion chamber, which manages the flow of wastewater in the sewer. Metro Vancouver will install two new maintenance holes, construct a new sewer pipe, and replace a gate within the diversion chamber.<br></p><p>Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2024 and be completed in fall 2024. These upgrades will ensure wastewater continues to be safely managed when sewer flows are at their highest levels during wet weather.</p></div>
Work hoursWork hours<div class="ExternalClass8CFE2A610EF742BB860576C254D4EEDD"><p>All activities will comply with the City of New Westminster noise bylaws and granted bylaw variances. Typical work hours will be:</p><ul><li>Monday to Friday: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm</li>​ </ul>​This schedule may change if crews need more time to complete critical activities. Metro Vancouver will notify the community about these activities ahead of time.</div>
Impacts and mitigationImpacts and mitigation<div class="ExternalClassCE867CC55DA5449F8F7E8721674E1FFF"><p>Metro Vancouver recognizes construction will impact the surrounding community and have planned several measures to minimize impacts as much as possible. </p><h4>Construction Impacts</h4><ul><li>Temporary trail closure at the end of the Glenbrook Ravine Trail<br></li><li>Trail access via Glenbrook Drive closed during construction</li><li>Trail access via Kwantlen Court closed for approximately 2 months, and intermittently throughout the project</li><li>Noise from construction activities, including excavation, drilling, water pumps, and generators</li><li>Construction vehicles and equipment in the area</li><li>Intermittent traffic impacts near Jamieson Court</li><li>Traffic control personnel in the area</li><li>A temporary site office located on Glenbrook Drive<br></li></ul><h4>Traffic and Safety</h4><p>Vehicle, cyclist, and pedestrian traffic in and around Glenbrook Ravine Park will be affected during construction. Public access to trails in the north end of the park will be restricted for the duration of the project​. There will be additional brief intermittent trail closures and parking restrictions in effect as construction activities proceed. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use alternate routes, follow the direction of signage and traffic control personnel, and use extra caution when travelling in the area. </p></div>
