Program overview
The Cariboo Dam is located in Burnaby Lake Regional Park. Built in 1935, the dam provides flood protection for downstream areas along the Brunette River and preserves water quality by reducing erosion and sediment disruption.
Metro Vancouver is looking at ways to enhance public safety around the Cariboo Dam. As part of this work, Metro Vancouver wants to better understand how you use the Brunette River. Your responses will help inform recommendations to enhance safety for all river users.

Engagement
Between April 7 and July 31 2026, Metro Vancouver is seeking your input on how, when, and where you use the Brunette River. We will also be meeting with river user groups and talking to people around the river.
We want to hear from you
The survey has also been shared with First Nations for their input.
All feedback will be used to inform recommendations to enhance public safety around the dam and Brunette River. A summary of what we heard during engagement will be posted on this webpage in fall 2026.
