Purpose
Operating under the authority of the Local Government Act, the Board considers applications where compliance with applicable bylaws or legislation would cause hardship. The Board may order that a minor variance be permitted from those requirements.
Membership 2022 - 2024
Members are residents of Electoral Area A and appointed by the MVRD Board for a three year term. There is no limit on the number of terms a member may serve. The Chair is elected by the members.

Electoral Area A Board of Variance Volunteer Opportunities
Metro Vancouver invites residents and property owners of Electoral Area A to apply to serve on the Metro Vancouver Board of Variance for a three-year term (2025 – 2027).
The Board of Variance is a volunteer decision-making body that considers minor variances or exemptions to land use bylaw regulations (e.g., zoning, building) requested by property owners in the rural parts of
Electoral Area A. Successful applicants may provide input on hardship decisions relating to siting, dimensions, and size of buildings.
