Metro Vancouver operates an air quality advisory service in cooperation with partner agencies. Metro Vancouver issues air quality advisories to the public and media when air quality has deteriorated or is forecast to deteriorate significantly within Metro Vancouver or the Fraser Valley. Air quality advisories are typically issued when a pollutant exceeds or is predicted to exceed an air quality objective or standard at more than one monitoring location.
This performance indicator shows the total number of days when air quality advisories were in place in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Periods of degraded air quality can occur in the region for several reasons, such as summertime smog during hot weather, smoke from forest fires and winter temperature inversions limiting dispersion of emitted air contaminants. The performance objective for this indicator is zero advisory days due to emission sources located within the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley airshed.

Air Quality Advisory Days
