Public Invited to Celebrate 100th Anniversary of Metro Vancouver’s Drinking Water Service, Provide Input on Long-Term PlanningPublic Invited to Celebrate 100th Anniversary of Metro Vancouver’s Drinking Water Service, Provide Input on Long-Term Planning<div class="ExternalClassB39F2E70F31E45E0B3B0AE3A46B9CF32"><p></p><p>Members of the public are invited to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the regional water supply system at a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, July 20 at the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. There will be activities, food trucks, music, educational displays, and an opportunity to provide input on Metro Vancouver’s long-term plan for delivering drinking water to the region.<br></p><p>“One hundred years ago, the groundwork was laid to secure a safe and reliable drinking water supply. Today, we’re proud to carry forward this commitment to public health, resilience, and well-being,” said Mike Hurley, Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors. “Now, Metro Vancouver is preparing for the next century, aiming to meet the needs of a growing population and ensure the water supply system is ready for future weather and seismic events.”</p><p>Metro Vancouver has provided high-quality drinking water to residents ever since the Vancouver and Coquitlam Waterworks companies came together and the subsequent founding of the Greater Vancouver Water District in 1924. Since then, Metro Vancouver has implemented numerous long-term plans and policies, including the <em></em><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:calibri, sans-serif;color:#333333;"><a href="/services/water/drinking-water-management-plan-update"><em><span style="color:#356aa4;">Drinking Water Management Plan</span></em></a></span> to promote conservation, improve infrastructure, and ensure a sustainable water supply for future generations.</p><p>“Long-term planning for a strong and reliable water system is always top of mind at Metro Vancouver, and conservation factors into our plans. As the region grows and the climate changes, ensuring that we’re using treated drinking water responsibly is crucial,” said Malcolm Brodie, Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Water Committee. “The actions we take now will make a huge difference for the future.”</p><p>The 100th Anniversary Celebration will showcase the inner workings of the regional water system.
