Industrial lands are critical to supporting a diverse, resilient economy for businesses and residents because they secure land for economic and job growth within the region, and an efficient transportation system. In response to the vulnerability of industrial land, policies are in place to protect and appropriately use and densify or intensify the region’s limited supply of Industrial and Employment lands, while considering future industrial use, greenhouse gas emissions, and the impacts of climate change.

Contextual performance measure

Metro 2050 establishes the performance measure as the total and cumulative change in hectares of land designated Industrial and Employment that is developed and vacant.

Progress

This contextual measure monitors how industrial lands are used in the region. The Metro Vancouver 2020 Regional Industrial Lands Inventory identified 10,250 hectares of land with an Industrial or Employment regional land use designation.
