Metro 2050 supports a diverse economy through compact land use development patterns. The region’s economy is anchored by the activities of major institutions. Examples include the Port of Vancouver, Vancouver International Airport, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology, and Emily Carr University, as well as a network of small and medium enterprises with different specializations. Institutional, office, and retail activities are key to the successful development of Urban Centres (UCs) across the region.
Contextual performance measure
Metro 2050 establishes the performance measure as the total and change in employment by sector in UCs, Frequent Transit Development Areas, and Major Transit Growth Corridors.
