In Metro Vancouver, some housing operates under agreements with the provincial or federal government. This includes independent social housing, housing cooperatives, homes for independent seniors, group homes, transition homes, other forms of supportive housing, and units that receive rent supplements.

The information in this section is based on BC Housing’s summary of housing units that they have a financial relationship with. There may be other subsidized housing units in the region that are not associated with BC Housing, so the data presented here may not be a comprehensive account of expiring social housing agreements.

Notes

  • The glossary provides definitions of each technical term, ensuring consistent interpretation.
  • Jurisdiction and Metro Vancouver totals may not equal the sum of individual values due to rounding, data suppression, or the omission of smaller data points to maintain visual readability. If a geography is not listed or appears missing, the associated data was either unavailable or did not meet reporting thresholds.
  • The BC Housing Unit Count Reporting Model, March 31, 2024, was prepared by BC Housing in May 2024.
  • BC Housing only tracks units where they have a financial relationship. Therefore, there could be other subsidized housing units in the community.
  • This report includes units with agreement expiry dates between 2024 and 2050.
  • Units where BC Housing is the Housing Provider have been excluded.
  • Prior reporting on expiry of operating agreements may be limited to specific funding programs and may have been reported under a different methodology.
  • Units with agreement renewals in progress may be included.
  • BC Housing data is combined for the City of Langley and Langley Township, and for the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver.
  • BC Housing’s housing continuum reports are based on units (e.g., housing units, beds, spaces, and rent supplements, depending on each program) instead of the number of people they assist.
