Request Signs of the Season

Program description

No matter the season, animals and plants are busy! In spring, trees burst into leaf, bumblebees forage for nectar, and birds build nests. In fall, plants scatter seeds, squirrels stash mushrooms and cones, and birds migrate. Immerse students in sensory activities to discover how living things survive seasonal changes and still meet their basic needs.

Sample activities (may vary depending on the location, leader, group age, or teacher request):

  • Nutty Squirrel: Play a food-caching game. (Fall)
  • Leaf Rainbow: Learn why leaves fall from trees; collect leaves and sort them by colour. (Fall)
  • Bee Bottoms: Pretend to be a bee as you pollinate flowers with your handheld bee bottom (cotton swab). (Spring)
  • Bird Nests: Look at a variety of bird nests and the materials that birds use to make them. (Spring/Summer)
