Actions that encourage office development in Urban Centres (UCs) and areas close to frequent transit are key elements of Metro 2050. Well-located office development accommodates growth of businesses and jobs, benefits the regional transportation system, and advances vibrancy and success of UCs.

Contextual performance measure

Metro 2050 establishes the performance measure as the change in office floor area within UCs Frequent Transit Development Areas, and Major Transit Growth Corridors .

Progress

This contextual measure records the distribution of office building across the region. In 2022, 90% of the region's office space was located within a UC, within 400 metres of the Frequent Transit Network (FTN) bus service, or within 800 metres of rail rapid transit stations. For office space within UCs, 69% is in the Metro Core, 16% in Regional City Centres, 9% in Municipal Town Centres, and 6% in the Surrey Metro Centre.
