Project overview​​

The 2024 pilot program has ended.

Metro Vancouver conducted a pilot program during the summer of 2024 that allowed visitors to consume alcohol responsibly at designated areas in six regional parks during park hours.

  • Boundary Bay Regional Park (Delta)
  • Brunette-Fraser Regional Greenway (Burnaby, New Westminster)
  • Campbell Valley Regional Park (Langley)
  • Capilano River Regional Park (North Vancouver, West Vancouver)
  • Derby Reach Regional Park (Langley)
  • Iona Beach Regional Park (Richmond)

Next steps

In early 2025, staff will report back to the Regional Parks Committee and the Board with recommendations about the future of the program. More information will be posted when available.​​

Pilot ​pro​ject​

All events where alcohol will be served still require a special event p​ermit and permits/approvals from the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.​​​

Public health information

Research shows drinking alcohol poses an elevated risk to your health. Consider the information provided by health authorities about the related risks in order to make informed decisions.

​Alcohol and water don’t mix. Even small amounts of alcohol can affect behaviour and abi​lity, increasing the risk of drowning.​​​​​​​​​
