Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

​Our housing community is a leader in reducing waste. Resources to help our residents reduce, reuse and recycle are now available to tenants and building managers throughout the region.

Help reduce your waste

Mail and print materials

  • Stop addressed junk mail: Learn how to opt out of advertising mail through Canada Post.
  • Yellow Pages phone books: Opt out of receiving printed directories online, or by calling 1-800-268-5637.
  • Free newspapers: Request a “No newspapers please" sticker from your site manager or Area Office to reduce door-to-door delivery of free newspapers.​

Food waste

Recycling and reuse

  • Metro Vancouver Recycles: Searc​h for recycling information and drop-off locations if you are not sure whether something can be recycled.
  • What's Your Superhabit?:  Get tips to reduce single-use items like cups, containers, bags, utensils, and straws. Every small daily action counts. 
  • Create Memories Not Garbage: Learn tips to reduce waste during the holiday season.​

Reuse has a bigger impact than r​ecycling

  • Think Thrice About Your Clothes: Repair or reuse clothing to save money and reduce textile waste.
  • Donations and giveaways: Sell or give away usable items through online marketplaces or local community groups.
  • Community swap meets: Host or participate in a local swap meet to share items and connect with your neighbours. For more info, contact your Community Development Coordinator at mvhcommunity@metrovancouver.org.
