About Climate 2050
Climate 2050 is Metro Vancouver’s strategy to transition the region to a low carbon, resilient region over the next 30 years. It’s being developed and implemented in collaboration with residents and partners throughout the region, and aligns with the efforts of other levels of government.
Our approach
- Building resilient infrastructure, ecosystems, and communities
- Targeting a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030 from 2010 levels
- Carbon neutral region by 2050
Climate 2050 Roadmaps: A path forward
The Climate 2050 Roadmaps outline the policies and actions needed to dramatically reduce emissions and prepare our communities for a changing climate. Roadmap topics include:
- Nature & Ecosystems
- Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
- Human Health and Well-Being
- Buildings
- Transportation
- Industry and Business
- Energy
- Land Use and Urban Form
- Agriculture
- Waste Management
Each Roadmap presents a suite of actions to be implemented by Metro Vancouver and/or other organizations and individuals throughout the region.
Engagement
Metro Vancouver is looking to engage audiences who are interested, impacted, or have a role in implementation in climate action in this region. Throughout 2024, the following roadmaps are currently underway:

- Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
- Waste Management
