New Westminster InterceptorNew Westminster Interceptor<div class="ExternalClass1C3684FEE4E14BED97C2F5648D6D93C1"><p>The New Westminster Interceptor is a large pressurized sewer pipe that carries wastewater collected throughout the Metro Vancouver region to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of Delta. To ensure continued protection of public health and the environment, this aging pipe needs to be repaired.</p><p>Construction will take place along Columbia Street from Front Street to McBride Boulevard. Crews will begin construction for the most vulnerable section of pipe extending from Front Street to Blackwood Street in summer 2021. Work for this section is expected to be complete in spring 2023.</p><p>The next section of work, extending from just past Blackwood Street to the Pattullo Bridge, will begin in summer 2022 and will be completed in coordination with the upcoming Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project.</p></div>Columbia Street, from Front Street to McBride Boulevard, City of New Westminster

Impacts and MitigationImpacts and Mitigation<div class="ExternalClass9D8A9C82345040749152D5C70DC6755D"><p>Construction impacts associated with this work will include:</p><ul><li>Traffic pattern changes and delays</li><li>Temporary lane closures along Columbia Street </li><li>Parking restrictions </li><li>Occasional temporary odour</li><li>Construction vehicles and increased traffic in the area</li><li>Noise from the use of heavy equipment </li><li>Central Valley Greenway detours<br></li></ul>​ <p>Though vehicle, cyclist, pedestrian traffic, and parking access along Columbia Street will be affected, please note that traffic along Columbia Street will be maintained during construction. There may be intermittent lane closures and parking restrictions in effect as construction proceeds. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance about specific impacts a​s the project progresses.</p><p>Motorists and cyclists are advised to use alternate routes and follow the direction of signage and traffic control personnel.</p>​​ </div>
Work HoursWork Hours<div class="ExternalClassE824B7805A2C45AB9B0AE84CBC87E3F6"><p>Work will generally occur from Monday to Saturday, between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm. Crews will make efforts to complete the work in a timely manner and to reduce impacts to local residents and businesses. There may be times when crews will be required to work extended hours to complete specific tasks and stay on schedule. All work will comply with City of New Westminster bylaws or granted bylaw variances. </p>​<br></div>
